Cogeneration unit · A complete solution in a single device

MultiEnergy
combined heat
and cooling generation

A single inverter unit that produces cooling and heat at the same time. It runs on the natural R290 refrigerant, below 40 dB, and in cogeneration with photovoltaics moves your facility towards Net Zero.

System components

Three operating modes, one device

MultiEnergy inverter cogeneration units simultaneously supply energy to the heat store and the cold store. Every unit in the range is a cooling-heating device in a monoblock enclosure, operating in cooling, heating or cogeneration mode.

Cogeneration mode

Simultaneous heat and cooling generation, full use of energy with no losses or heat rejection to the environment.

Heating mode

Building heating, domestic hot water and process heat at a high COP.

Cooling mode

Cooling for refrigerated cabinets, cold rooms, air conditioning and process applications with a high EER.

Cogeneration mode: simultaneous supply of the heat and cold stores, with no energy losses.

Heat store

  • Low-temperature heating
  • Domestic hot water (DHW)
  • Process heat

Cold store

  • Process cooling
  • Air conditioning
  • Refrigerated cabinets and cold rooms (MCP)
MultiEnergy+OZE=Net Zero

The system uses solar energy and air as the main sources for the combined production of heat and cooling that powers the entire facility. Combined with photovoltaics, it leads to net-zero emissions.

How it works

Before and after modernisation

See how the facility’s energy balance changes after deploying the MultiEnergy system, in summer and winter.

Before modernisation
  • Plug-in refrigerated cabinets: heat released into the room
  • Air conditioning has to be oversized
  • Air conditioners and refrigerated cabinets with low EER
  • Building ventilation without heat recovery: energy loss
  • Facility powered from the grid
After modernisation
  • Heat and cooling produced in cogeneration: no energy lost through rejection to the environment
  • Glycol-fed refrigerated cabinets generate cooling, reducing the demand on air conditioning
  • Air conditioning and refrigerated cabinets powered by MultiEnergy units with high EER
  • Building ventilation with heat recovery: energy savings
  • Facility powered by a photovoltaic system, with grid backup
Before modernisation
  • Remote-connected refrigerated cabinets: heat rejected to the environment
  • Building heating produced by low-efficiency devices
  • Refrigerated cabinets with low EER
  • Building ventilation without heat recovery: energy loss
  • Facility powered from the grid
After modernisation
  • Heat and cooling produced in cogeneration: no energy lost through rejection to the environment
  • Building heating produced at a high COP
  • Glycol refrigerated cabinets with high EER
  • Building ventilation with heat recovery: energy savings
  • Facility powered by a photovoltaic system, with grid backup

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the key questions about the MultiEnergy cogeneration unit: savings, the R290 refrigerant, cooperation with photovoltaics and installation.

What is the MultiEnergy cogeneration unit?
MultiEnergy is an inverter unit that produces heat and cooling at the same time in a single device (cogeneration). It works in three modes: cooling, heating and cogeneration, powering refrigeration, air conditioning, heating and domestic hot water from a single source.
How much energy can the MultiEnergy system save?
In a documented deployment at a fuel station with a car wash, annual electricity consumption fell from 201 MWh to 37 MWh. That is a saving of over 80%, about 164 MWh per year.
What is the return-on-investment period?
For the analysed fuel station the payback period is about 4 years. Every subsequent year of energy savings feeds the facility budget.
Which refrigerant does MultiEnergy use?
MultiEnergy runs on the natural R290 refrigerant, eco-friendly and future-proof in light of EU climate policy. It aligns with the move away from synthetic F-gas refrigerants.
How loud is the unit?
The unit operates to the Ultra Silent standard, below 40 dB. Quiet operation is a new level of comfort for customers and staff, and matters in facilities next to residential buildings.
Does MultiEnergy work with photovoltaics?
Yes. The system is designed to work coherently with a PV installation. Combined with renewables, MultiEnergy moves the facility towards Net Zero, and surplus energy can be stored as heat and cooling.
Does the installation require an F-gas register entry?
No. Thanks to the natural R290 refrigerant and the closed thermal-energy circuit, the installation is hydraulic rather than a refrigeration one, so no entries in the central operators register are required.
Does the device integrate with building systems?
Yes. MultiEnergy is BMS Ready, equipped with GSM/LTE connectivity and holds an HACCP certificate. It is ready for remote monitoring and integration with the facility infrastructure and management systems.
